FAQs

How can I know about my mortgage company pays on time?

Now you can check your account status online. For this, you will check your status by entering your account number or your address on the county's site. You can call us at our office number (410) 996-5385 or e-mail us at tax@ccgov.org. Mostly, the mortgage companies give their payments on the last week of July, December, and September. Because of the volume of mail we receive, it takes some extra time to process all payments. Therefore please just wait a week or so after the time- limit and then call us or e-mail us.

What is the Homeowner's Tax Credit and Homestead Credit?

The Homeowner's Tax Credit is based upon household income and is available for all homeowners regardless of age. This credit is based on a formula that compares income and set limits to the amount of tax billed. If you want to qualify then you must have to submit an application to the Department of Assessments and Taxation before September 1st. You have to reapply each year. To request an application or for more information, contact the State assessment office at 410-996-2760 or email at sdat.cec@maryland.gov or you can contact the Cecil County Finance Office at 410-996-5385.

The Homestead credit is made for homeowners that experience rapidly rising assessments to limit the tax liability.  Effective July 1, 2007, increases to assessments are limited to 8%. For each town, the cap may be different. Starting from 2008 and the State will require you to apply for the credit. Regarding this credit see the notice. For more information, please visit the State website at www.dat.state.md.us
